Family
Much of Mark's impetus for wishing to bring about meaningful change for Ontario emanates from his family. The philosophical (and increasingly operational) question of what kind of a world is being left for future generations has motivated many of Mark's actions.
He and wife Kathy were wed in the national capital of Ottawa. The MacKenzie family clearly believes in gender equality in the truest sense of the phrase: daughters Kara (aged 27), and Stephanie (24), were subsequently joined by sons Kyle (8) and Ryan (6). The family derives much joy from their dog Joey, a Shih Tzu by breed.
One of the more revelatory aspects of those engaged in the quest to protect and preserve our ecosystems is the notion of desire. Each one of us possesses the need to interact with our natural surroundings in ways that are both restorative and energizing. The MacKenzie family is typical of this symbiotic relationship. Choice activities such as swimming, soccer, biking, and skiing invariably intertwine with favoured summer and winter seasons.
